Camera gimbal

A big step for a small low price UAV platform, to carry a high quality camera gimble.

Camera gimbal makes the video stream much more smooth over a rigid camera bracket.
Camera gimbal on the DJI Phantom drone,  is being realized as being essential part of the Aerial photography kit. The quality of the drone in manufacturing is a lot less in comparison. But if the intended use of the material is to be used commercially, then there is not way to go around it.

There are several manufacturers that make a Camera gimbal.

There is the Zenmuse camera gimbal and the Brushless Camera gimbal. This video presents the DJI Phantom H3-2D Brushless Camera gimbal.

It is important to keep in mind that the DJI Phantom price is at the mid range, it is affordable product at the entry level. It is a mass produced item, and cost under US$800. The high quality gimbal on the other hand also cost almost the same amount, over US$600. And the Go-Pro 3 Camera price is around US$400.

Some DJI product users have voiced their complaints over the lack of quality and detail of the mass produced components of the DJI Phantom drone.

I have seen some YouTube videos put out by the product owners and they voiced their complaints about the DJI Phantom being structurally a low quality product, engines and props being out of balance and crashes broke bits off the plastic drone. But no one has said that the electronics or the flight control system being a low quality system, this is also evident from the previous YouTube video video series.

The flight environment should be a suitable environment, where to learn the art of flying it.

Forget about doing it on a hard concrete or paved areas that cause rock hard landings. Landing off cetre on a hard surface can cause the drone to bounce and tip over, breaking/gauging the propellers in the process.   Why not go out on a green grassy open space where there is natural grass or other ground cover with a soft landing. The propeller guards should also come standard so that the propellers stay in one piece when bumping into objects or walls. I also heard mentioned that the nuts on the propellers can come undone and fly off, making the Quad-copter into a Tri-copter that flies off out of control on all threes.  The nuts should be checked before each flight, to prevent and counteract nasty incidents. Also the battery connector should be checked to make sure they stay connected, if a battery connection comes undone in mid flight, the drone will drop out of the sky like a dead bird.

That’s all for this H3-2D Camera gimbal, i will do the next post on a another brand Camera gimbal as a comparison.  For more YouTube video viewing on the DJI Phantom, watch it here. Buy UAV.

  1. I had my gp battery die from charging it through my phantom along with constant lockups and video recordings stoppage.

  2. Yes the new Phantom but not the Zenmuse, the new Phantom it’s called the Phantom Vision that one has a camera but with only 1 axis or 2 axis i cant remember but it’s using servos not brushless.

  3. you mentioned “The new Phantom”. You mean dji will come out with a new Phantom with a zenmuse gimbal included????

  4. There is a hardware/firmware problem related to the Hero 3 battery pack design. I would bet that GoPro knows about the problem, and communicated to DJI that they should continuously supply the Hero 3 with power from an external source to prevent a thread deadlock/ race condition from occurring in the firmware.

  5. I want to work with you and I have 10 years experience in the field of imaging equipment

  6. The GoPro uses the same input for charging as is does downloading video, so you wouldn’t be charging it while flying, but instead using the GoPro instead of having to attach a secondary camera for FPV.

  7. The new Phantom has a bigger body for battery compartment so yes it will have a gimbal but flight time will be 8 mins- 10 mins max

  8. I don’t quite get why you would power the gopro with the phantom battery when it only lasts 8 minutes without it. Powering the gopro and fpv must bring the flight time down to a couple minutes.
