The GPS Mode makes the PHANTOM a high tech, all-in-one small Quad Copter designed for multi-rotor enthusiasts.
GPS mode and the Attitude mode are just two of the high tech features that the DJI Phantom radio controlled vehicle has.
The GPS mode on the DJI Phantom puts the brakes on when pulling back on the throttle, opposed to the attitude mode the UAV will coaster on down the same line of flight. This can be real safety feature that will stop the flying vehicle before it makes contact with obstacles, without the actions of the pilot that would be inevitable.
A another feature of the DJI Phantom is the IOC Mode, it is an innovative advantaged high tech feature in a UAV at this price level.
It is called the; Intelligent Orientation Control modes, there is the Home Lock Mode, and the Course Lock Mode. This feature makes the flying UAV more simplified and easy, they are programmed software options that can be selected on or off, and they guide the flight control and the positioning from the GPS.
The safety feature of the GPS mode.
The GPS mode particularly will save the UAV from involuntary damage, the potential damage can be from things like flying into trees, walls and other obstacles. Any one crash into a hard obstacle can potentially damage rotors, landing gear or just be really inconvenient like getting the vehicle stuck up on a high tree branch. It is made out of plastic after all, a light structure with the weight slightly increased with a on board camera.
The cruise of the Attitude Mode.
The Attitude Mode can be viewed as more like an air break that slows down the speed of the vehicle in the direction of travel, while keeping the same altitude. The vehicle will also be affected by the force of wind in this mode, the vehicle will drift if it is being buffeted by a sizable wind force. After reaching the 300 meter mark, the auto pilot program, will activate and bring the vehicle to where the vehicle launched from.
Both the GPS mode and the Attitude Mode are very useful features that increase the safety factor and also the pleasure of flying damage free vehicle for as long as possible.

I just got one and it does everything it’s supposed to do. It’s easy to fly, works great out of the box, and is generally really Fing cool. I think the folks with the complaints aren’t following directions or simply got a lemon.
how far is the reception?
Whats going on DJI, been waiting over 1 month for replacement DJI Phantom, my Phantom was sitting a month before you guys gave a RMA number and has just been sent back to you, it is not good enough your so slow in your response to the dealer, so he can send it back, not good enough DJI. So how much longer do I have to Wait? The hold up is with you guys.

We are following the DJI protocol. It has been issued a RMA# from DJI NA. We shipped it to DJI NA and they currently have it. Until they notify of the return shipment there is nothing we can do.
Hey, I totally 100% understand your frustration. It would hope it would be resolved next week. Personally, they should just direct ship a barnd new Phantom but we don’t make the policy.

It needed software re-calibration as I watched all the videos and found this out. Must have gotten out of wack in shipping. You are right, one needs to just hit it where I was a little tentative a first. My main concern in the beginning was just doing damage to the motors in a crash but I’m pretty sure they can take some of this abuse as long as the throttle isn’t increased during a impact. Also learned about the quicker shutdown of the motors you mentioned. -thanks for reply
Higher than your control can go, these modes would work thousands of feet up
Stop taking off on grass, pavement allows a slide. Take off in GPS mode and push on the sticks, get it up, dont go slow. These work well you just have to be assertive. To kill power, put both sticks down and in like when you start them. Throttle down has a delay to kill motors, its not like what you would expect.
I just received my Phanton where I took it out to a field and followed the setup in your videos. Applied power and the copter tipped forwards and became a weed eater for a second. Doesn’t sound pretty since this is nearly a 700 dollar investment. Does this hurt the motors? I try and pull the power back quickly but it doesn’t shut down immediately. Did all the suggested steps again to make sure I didn’t skip anything and once again it tipped over sending front props into the ground. Need help!
the flightmode switch has 3 positions
1 for GPS (on top) and 2 for ATTI (middle and lower position)
I cant find any information in the manual, what the lower position is for
Can you tell me what is the difference between the 2 ATTI switch-positions?
