Tested Inspire 1 Review
Tested Inspire 1 Review video takes the new DJI Inspire 1 model quadcopter pointing out some of the finer qualities and features where it performs stronger than the lower end, entry level Phantom Vision + series drone. The DJI upsell is a transformer concept with many new design features and also moving towards the professional heavy weight competition side of the UAV market, with more powerful lift, equipped with a stronger battery and more powerful motors. Blades are 13 inch, instead of the Phantom vision 9 inch blades. It weighs just under 3 kilograms, it flies higher and further, all up in 18 minutes. The felt impact of the drone mass will be felt double, 3 kilogram heavyweight opposed to the 1.5 kilogram Phantom Vision 2 series. Maybe if is designed for the FBI, or for the Queens 007 Secret service, it may even be able to carry a peacemaker with a remote controlled trigger? Who knows where it all ends up.

I know, i know, it would be great to have a budget, that is bigger, and has more lift than a hot air baloon on a clear frosty winter day. But then again, for the spectators it is fun to watch and observe and wait to see how the “dragon skull” flies, no skin lost if it takes a dive. My guess is that similar to the Phantom series, it took a one, two, three and four models until the engineers were really certain that what they had produced was a sustainable clever desingn, the frenzy of redesigning the Phantom series basic models several times in two years seems to be driven more by a marketing stragedy than a certainty with competence in a quality product. Who could afford to keep up with all the changes in the models? An investment of US$900 is a big hit, that will be felt for a long time by many entry level hobbyist. Maybe working people can afford to change the model ofa camera drone once a year. It would take some work delivering papers to save up for the latest US$1200 Phantom vision + model.

A consumer marketing stragedy would propably support that if the “new changes” are belivable and innovative, and not just the “transformer” image and imaginative illussions. DJI Phantoms are inadvertently destroying the RC hobby for planes,
helicopter, and quad,hex, octo copter enthusiasts.. they sell these
dangerous quadcopters with faulty GPS mode to total amateurs who have NO
interest in the RC hobby, but rather just want to get ‘cool’ footage for
facebook or instagram. These rookies don’t respect the hobby, they have no
skills, and then they try to blame OTHERS when they crash because they
didn’t bother to read the instructions. Then cry that there should be
legislation against people from flying!! Really hate this company.

18 minutes flight time with the “special DJI” battery is not impressive at
all and is a big downfall of this machine. The camera being used is pretty
nice with the 3 axis gimbals. Although being nice, it definitely isn’t nice
enough for the price. You could scratch build a machine which is way better
for far less money.
The camera can only turn 360 degrees IF you happen to have another
controller and someone to operate it!!
I think this is very short sighted of DJI to limit this innovative feature
to those who have somebody with them and a $600 controller.
Come on DJI. I’m sure you can configure the app to enable the yaw stick to
switch between aircraft yaw control and camera yaw control.
Please make this amendment as it is a huge draw to have this facility.
Yes, I know I could just yaw the aircraft to get 360 degree footage but I
may want the quad in a certain direction and wish to pan the camera only.

I really want a quadcopter, but I’m not all that rich. I want to buy a
relatively cheap one that has video capability. I’m wondering if anything
like that exists. It has to be good enough video quality that I could use
it for video shoots. But the quality of video doesn’t have to be so high
that it’s crystal clear. Just good enough to serve it’s purpose.
Is there anything good enough out there to shoot scenes for stuff, but not
so high priced that my bank will explode?

Maybe I’m just paranoid, but all I kept thinking was, what if this has s
small gun on it, with lets say a single 5.7x28mm, then that open source
stuff, make a perfect sight, program the drone to shift forward or
something the second it fires to help with recoil. Maaan, I must sound
crazy. Hahahahaha. I copyrighed that shit, tho!

When I saw the tag I was like did you really have to use a fake tag to from
some sci fi movie to make it look cooler? but I guess that I should’ve
known tested doesn’t use fake tags… The future is in 1 sec. Oh well keep
using that method and one second later it’ll still be just one more
second…. What am I saying?!??
So they put the parrot stabilization system on here? I really like! Maybe
one day I will own it. The cost for this is over $2500. But the cost will
go down. But for right now I am just going to buy the Parrot BeeBop. I am
also flying my Parrot AR drone 2.0 with a goPro mount.

oscilacion,(min 0:48 , 2:13 )y no esta en el centro de los ejes como
deberia.ademas el tren retractil ( es una maravilla tecnologica) pero pone
en riesgo la camara en caso de aterrizaje de emergencia y los niveles,
equilibrios de los motores es una de las partes mas sensibles en
multirrotores como para estar subiendo y bajando continuamente.igualmente
es una maravilla. un abrazo.

And at 1:08 I’m shocked he says “the camera is dropped below the CG to be
more stable” The control board will ACTUALLY be most able to keep the quad
most stable with the CG at the elevation the same with the plane of lift.

If you are in a moving vehicle (car or boat), can you set it to follow you
at a set distance and height away from the moving vehicle, so you don’t
have to worry about steering it?

I have been a DJI phantom 2 user and I know how dangerous the rotating
blades are when not enclosed with rotor guards. Also the guards do help to
protect the drone and the blades from damage in cases of awkward landings
that tilt the drone on its side. So my next question is with the Inspire
the blades are not guarded and will cause some serious physical wounding to
a persons face and exposed limbs. Also, if in the unfortunate situation
arises when the Inspire comes in contact with say tree branches or a solid
structure I hate to think what will happen to the blades and the motors.
Lets look at the landing gear: The Phantom 2 has its under-carriage always
safeguarding your camera (say the Go Pro and gimbal). Now in the case of
the Inspire 1 if and when you have a emergency landing or even worst a
collision with the ground I cannot see the under-carriage coming down in
time to save the 4K camera and attachments. What do others have to say?
WOW. I want this. I have a pretty advanced drone project I’m in the early
stages of planning out. My project doesn’t require a camera (although I am
considering some machine vision techniques, but certainly no need for 4K).
Is is possible to buy one of these without the camera? Additionally, what
about customization? I’d love to be able to add mechanical grippers and
micro-controllers. Maybe someone will tell me that I’m looking into the
wrong drone, but this thing seems so incredibly well built.

You guys could make a video teaching how to build your own 1080p projector.
I feel like in this day and age the remote controller should be extremely
simple and not so complicated looking. And you have to use a cord to
connect the ipad? What about bluetooth? You have to use two controllers to
control the copter and the camera at once? Only 18 minutes of flight time?
Kind of hard to wrap my head around spending three grand on an item i know
could be a whole lot better…
Looks very cool. But from an engineering standpoint, I have serious
concerns about a lack of stiffness in a frame with two articulated single
booms. There is no way that frame does not have a substantial amount of
torsional flex or slop. You’ve got bearing clearances and CF tube couplers
all working against you here.
It seems far better to keep the motor/prop plane as rigid as possible, and
just articulate the landing gear.
Form follows function – not the other way around. I suspect that DJI has
ignored that rule.
Being part of a large RC pilot group keeps me in the loop on new product
reviews. Of late many members of our multirotor pilots are in constant
debate regarding the DJI Inspire 1. This is a diverse group, so one might
take production videos of sporting events with gimbals and cameras while
another might be inspecting his corn fields using preprogrammed flight
plans with goggles and long distance video feed. Just as the initial
excitement is waning this past 2 weeks, many serious problems started
surfacing. There is now an overwhelming consensus that the Inspire 1 design
is inherently flawed, that there are multiple vibration related structural
and mechanical elements that can not be fixed without a major overhaul. The
signature “T” shaped lifting arms that inspired the initial praise has turn
into a curse. While engineers place the blame on compounded torque form two
motors on opposite ends of a “T”, multirotor integrators agreed that
lifting mechanism (usually reserved for skids) should not have found its
way to hold up right angled arms with a high speed motor at each end. By
the end of last week all have cancelled or called off their Inspired
commitments ….. for now.
Also he says “real estate doesnt need any modifications to the systems
right now.” What he forgets to say is its 100% illegal to use a drone for
any commercial application unless your drone pilot has a FAA approval and
pilots license. People are going to court and being fined $3000 upwards
every day in the US for thinking they can be commercial with their drone
and make money. BZZZZT
You should definetly boost the battery, there are small powerbanks 1/3 of
the size of this battery and their packing 12 000 mah batteries, compared
to four thousand on this one.
18 minutes of battery time is enough when filming short shots. But just
think about the posibilities with longer battery time. Filming events or
following a boat / car over time.
Amazing product, but you should REALLY boost the battery!

Finally a face to the name Eric. When the Naza first came out we use to
email back and forth a bit (Seadog1967). Still love the Naza but am saving
up for the Inspire.
Please when will cameras have a RC zoom function, or at lease toggle
through the setting in the air.

DJI product knows their QA is for crap.
Being an rc hobbyist, this thing is way over priced… Yes it is a ready to
fly quadcopter, which does also add to the price, but I believe anyone
willing to invest a lot of money into a quad should either buy an ARF kit
or build themselves. The skills involved with building the quad yourself
and or assembling the quad will help you with any future repairs, because
let’s be honest a multirotor is going to crash no matter how experienced
the pilot may be. None the less the style of the craft does make up for the
price… But anyone thinking of purchasing such an aircraft should consider
this thought, nice in depth review will ;)
